Ministry of industry and information technology awarded 3G license to China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom on January 7, 2009, which resulted in the coexistence of three different 3G standards TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000. 2009 has witnessed Chinese 3G for the first time.

 2009 China International Consumer Electronics Show (SINOCES) will be held on July 9 at Qingdao International Convention and Exhibition Center. 2009SINOCES has decided to set up 3G communication exhibition space. 3G manufacturers would not miss this "Feast", the annual consumer electronics high profile show.  3G key manufacturers like Haier, Hisense, Huawei, ZTE are interested in participation. A number of 3G mobile phones are expected to be unveiled at the exhibition, which enables consumers to have access to more choices in 3G times.

According to the prediction by authoritative institutions, China's three major operators will invest a total investment of RMB 280 billion yuan into 3G network construction from 2009 to 2010, of which 3G network construction investment and mobile phone subsidies in 2009 will reach RMB 173-203 billion yuan. About 600 million current mobile phone users and Net-Switch and upgrading of 60 million PHS users in China have attracted more and more attention. Thanks to the charge reduction of 3G, the application of value-added services closely relating to 3G tech (such as mobile TV, mobile browse, mobile advertising, etc.) will increase dramatically. 3G winners will ultimately hinge on users’ experiences aroused from the integration between 3G mobile terminals and value-added services.
